Port Phillip Bridge Replacement

Department of Planning & Environment

Crane installing concrete bridge beams at Port Phillip Bridge project by South East Civil & Crane.

South East Civil & Crane completed the full replacement of the timber Port Phillip Bridge over the Murrumbidgee River with a wider, modern concrete modular bridge designed to meet NSW RFS Category 1 Fire Trail Standards.

Our scope included the complete engineering design of the new bridge—covering the substructure, superstructure, and deck—with geotechnical investigations and on-site drilling informing substructure design. Safety in Design principles were applied throughout.

We managed the full construction and installation of the bridge, including realignment of 250 metres of fire trail to connect with the new crossing, along with associated cut-to-fill earthworks and installation of relief drainage structures.

The project was completed with rehabilitation of the former road alignment, ensuring minimal long-term environmental impact and improved access for emergency services and land management.
